"Major Lance at the Torch, Prep 1" is an original signed pencil sketch by Northern Soul artist Neil Thompson.

 

One night that lives long in the memory of all Northern Soul fans is December 9th, 1972. This was the date that Major Lance appeared at the Golden Torch Northern Soul club in Tunstall, Stoke on Trent. His performance at the all nighter was recorded by Contempo records and was released as a live album in 1973 (an image of the album can be seen in photo 6). Neil's pencil sketch pays tribute to that special night. The sketch shows a scene outside the Torch, with scooters parked up and the crowd beginning to gather. So real, so atmospheric!

This is an original piece of art - as the name suggests it is a preparatory work for an oil painting by Neil of Major Lance at the Torch.

 

The sketch measures 37 cm wide by 23 cm tall and has been completed on 200 gram art paper.

 

Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, please see image 5.

 

Collectors demand authenticity, for guaranteed provenance all Neil's work has his "dancing girl" printed on the reverse.
