"Before the All Nighter : Wigan Casino" is an original oil painting by Northern Soul artist Neil Thompson. 

The painting shows a scene at Wigan Casino before a Saturday all nighter. Back in the 1970's and early 80's coaches packed with teenagers travelled from all over the country to dance to rare Northern Soul records. The atmosphere in front of the Casino was always electric, everyone anticipating the night ahead! Every time you look at the painting you'll be reliving the ritual of an All Nighter at the biggest Northern Soul club of them all!

Neil has been into the Northern Soul scene since the early 1970's, all his art is drawn from memory. He was a regular at the Casino  and many other Northern Soul clubs throughout the 1970's. His art is regarded by many people as an iconic part of the Northern Soul scene.

The painting has been completed on 250 gram art paper, and measures 22 cm wide by 15 cm tall. The painting has been mounted using a classic ivory mount, and framed using a slim New Yorker style glazed black frame. The overall size with the frame is 31.5 cm wide by 23 cm tall.

Included with the painting is a replica Wigan Casino membership card - exactly the same as issued at the first ever all nighter at the club on 23rd September 1973 (see image 6).

The painting can be wall hung, or the frame has an in built stand to display on any flat surface.
