"The Start of the Night" is an original signed oil painting by Northern Soul artist Neil Thompson. 

The painting shows a scene on a railway station, with two teenagers, a boy and girl waiting for a train to go to an all nighter. This is how it was back in the seventies - hold alls and record cases ready for the journey and for the night ahead.

Take an up-close look at the intricate details of the painting, Neil captures the darkness of the night, the lights of the railway station and the approaching train - you could be there on the platform waiting for the train!!

Neil has been part of the Northern Soul scene since the early 1970's. He's travelled by train to many Northern Soul clubs - he was a regular at the Casino during the 1970's. All his art is done from memory, he doesn't need to use old photographs - he was there in the glory days of Northern Soul!

The painting measures 27 cm tall by 22 cm wide and has been completed on 350 gram art paper.
